Acoustic Panels for Offices: Controlling Open-Plan Noise with Wood Wool

Open-plan offices are among the hardest spaces to get right acoustically. Hard floors, glass and plasterboard reflect sound, raising background noise and eroding speech privacy and concentration. Wood wool acoustic panels (WWCB) are one of the most specified solutions for commercial fit-outs, for reasons that go beyond sound alone.

• Sound absorption where it counts. WWCB absorbs mid and high frequencies, the speech range, reducing reverberation and the cumulative hum of open-plan work. Sonablock achieves a weighted absorption coefficient of αw 0.70 to 0.85 depending on mounting and fibre size.

• Fire safety. Offices and fit-outs have strict fire requirements, especially on escape routes. Sonablock is certified Class B-s1,d0 to EN 13501-1, low smoke, no flaming droplets.

• Healthy material. Mineralised wood wool gives off no VOCs and is made from PEFC-certified spruce, relevant to indoor air quality in occupied workspaces.

Where to use them

WWCB works on walls and ceilings. Typical office applications: ceiling rafts or full ceilings over open-plan areas, wall absorption in meeting rooms and phone booths, feature walls in receptions and collaboration zones, and noisy circulation routes. For maximum low-frequency absorption, mount panels with a 25 to 50 mm air gap behind.
