How Much Sonablock Fits in a Container: 20ft & 40ft Freight Guide
Sonablock wood wool cement board (WWCB) is dense, rigid and stacks cleanly on pallets, which makes it one of the more freight-efficient acoustic materials to move internationally. If you are planning a container order, here is what actually fits, based on the real Stiga RM pallet specifications we ship every week.
How much does one pallet cover?
- 25 mm panels: approximately 30.96 m² per pallet, at ~11 kg/m² (~340 kg of panels, ~370 kg gross with the pallet).
- 15 mm panels: approximately 50.4 m² per pallet, at ~8.3 kg/m² nominal (~420 kg of panels, ~450 kg gross; allow up to ~530 kg as shipped, as cement-bonded board takes up some moisture).
A pallet weighs roughly 370 kg at 25 mm and 450 to 530 kg at 15 mm. A 20ft container fills by volume with either thickness; a 40ft fills by volume at 25 mm and by weight at 15 mm, so we confirm the exact loadout for every shipment.

Is a container limited by weight or volume?
A 40ft container has roughly 26–28 tonnes of payload, and EU road legs allow about 26 tonnes of cargo. A full 40ft of 25 mm weighs about 21 to 23 tonnes, so it fills by volume. At 15 mm the same box would take over 3,000 m² by volume but reaches the weight limit at about 2,500 m², so 15 mm loads are weight-limited. For buyers this means a 25 mm container is not paying for unused weight allowance, while a 15 mm container ships at full weight.
How are container loads priced?
Container-load (FCL) orders are quoted as projects, not at the webshop rate: at full-container volumes the per-square-metre price is well below standard retail. Send us your volume and destination and we will quote project pricing together with freight.
