What does each material actually do?
PET felt and wood wool are acoustic materials first - their job is absorbing sound, and the visual finish is secondary. Wood slat panels sit in between: real acoustic value from the felt or foam backing, but chosen as much for the look as the performance. MCM flexible stone is the opposite case - a decorative surface finish with no acoustic function, chosen purely for how it looks and how light it is to install.
Which one absorbs the most sound?
For pure absorption, wood wool and PET felt outperform wood slat panels, which rely on a thinner acoustic backing behind a solid front face. If echo control is the actual problem you're solving, start with wood wool or felt; if you want an acoustic-adjacent finish that also has to look a particular way, wood slat is the compromise.
Which one handles wet or heavily cleaned areas?
None of the four, by default. PET felt, wood wool and wood slat are interior, dry-area materials - moisture swells timber and degrades felt. MCM flexible stone tolerates humidity better than the others but isn't rated for direct water contact or harsh chemical cleaning either. Wet zones need a different material entirely.
Which one costs the least to cover a wall?
Roughly: MCM flexible stone and PET felt sit at the more accessible end per square metre, wood wool sits in the middle, and solid wood slat - especially in oak or walnut - is the most expensive of the four. Exact pricing depends on finish and format, so treat this as a starting point, not a quote.
Can you mix materials in one room?
Yes, and it's often the right answer. A common combination is a wood slat feature wall paired with a felt or wood wool ceiling - the slats do the visual work, the ceiling material does the acoustic work neither could do alone.
